The scenery around Utah Lake
We located our target species, a Woodhouse's toad
(Anaxyrus woodhousii), fairly quickly
This empty turtle shell, likely belonging to a
red eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans), was
found on the banks of the lake
Ornate tree lizards (Urosaurus ornatus)
were everywhere around the house of our gracious host,
Marshall
Although we missed out seeing our target species,
we did see a nice relative, this Great Basin Rattler (Crotalus
oreganus lutosus)
A nice red desert horned lizard (Phrynosoma
platyrhinos) was found in the sand dunes
This western whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris)
was found under a rock in the morning
A bit later, I flipped this red-spotted toad (Anaxyrus
punctatus)
This collared lizard (Crotaphytus bicinctores)
was also found under a rock high up on a hillside
The Utah agave is a cool plant
This southwestern speckled rattlesnake (Crotalus
pyrrhus) was a lifer for me!
The greys, subtle blues and browns make for a
very nice looking snake
This species blends in with the landscape so well |
A closeup as this little snake crawls through a
bush
Had to get a "wanker" shot with this one
We found this little juvenile desert iguana (Dipsosaurus
dorsalis) was found near the Littlefield, AZ
cemetary
Another desert iguana, a bit bigger than the
first, but not a full-grown adult |
The invasive Baja CA tree frog (Pseudacris
hypochondriaca) is found throughout the region
We went to a spot above the airport and quickly
located this desert horned lizard
We found a few Utah banded geckos (Coleonyx
variegatus), a target species from this area |
Another whiptail was flipped. This one looked
really nice
Such cool lizards! Look at those rear hind legs |
I found this banded gecko in a small hole in the
rock. Not sure how it fit in there!
Very cool lizard, especially on the black lava
rock |
This nice gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer) was
a nice find to end the trip
